Moody, Susan B.
Rochester: Died at home after a long illness. She is
survived by her husband, James P. Moody; two adult sons,
Derek and Nathaniel Moody; four grandchildren, Jonathan
(17), Kassandra (12), Hunter (7) and Griffin (2) Moody; and
two brothers, Donald and William Brand. She was the daughter
of Norma and Charles Brand, also of Rochester, and was
predeceased by both parents and two siblings, James and
Katherine Brand.
Born in New Rochelle, New York, in 1943, Susan spent her
youth in Hilton; Painesville, Ohio; and Rochester. As an
adult, she lived in Boston, San Francisco, and Long Beach,
California, before returning to Rochester in 1976. Always
seeking to help others and to right social injustices, Susan
was a feminist and political activist. She worked for
several years as a medical secretary, then as a legal
secretary for Farm Worker Legal Services of New York. After
years of dialysis and a kidney transplant, she became
severely disabled by environmental sensitivities. Even so,
despite her illness, Susan dedicated many hours to
counseling and comforting others.
A memorial service will be held at the First Unitarian
Church, 220 Winton Rd. S., on Sunday, July 8th at 1 pm. In
consideration of Susan's friends with chemical
sensitivities, when attending the service, please forego
perfume or scented products. Donations may be sent to
Polycystic Kidney Foundation, 9221 Ward Parkway, Suite 400,
Kansas City, MO 64114-3367. Condolences may be addressed to
Thomas Funeral Chapels, 4545 Lake Avenue, Rochester, NY
14612. Published in the Rochester Democrat And Chronicle on
7/1/2007. |
